    Updated October 29, 2026. Current-season information covers Chapter 7 Season 4: Override.

Fortnite Sprites have grown into a much bigger collection than the little Water, Air and Earth creatures some players remember. There are now companions that improve your movement, help you recover health, reveal opponents or make collecting other Sprites easier.

The confusing part is that an old guide can describe a Sprite correctly for its original season and still give you the wrong idea about what it does today. Even familiar names have returned with different abilities.

I find it much easier to separate three things: the current Sprite roster, the special variants of those Sprites, and the older companions preserved from previous seasons. This guide covers all three, including the newest arrivals and what their powers actually mean during a match.

    What Are Sprites in Fortnite?

Sprites are small collectible helpers that grant gameplay abilities when equipped in supported matches. Some powers work automatically, while others depend on an action such as jumping, using a healing item or damaging an opponent.

The modern collection system also lets you extract Sprites and add them to your collection. Finding one is only part of the process: you need to secure it if you want to keep it for later use.

They are different from cosmetic Back Blings and Sidekicks. A character appearing as a wearable accessory does not mean that accessory grants the matching Sprite’s ability.

How Many Sprites Are in Fortnite?

As of October 29, 2026, the Override collection contains 27 base Sprite types and 162 collectible entries when their variants are included.

That does not mean there are 162 completely different powers. Gold Sonic and Cheat Master Sonic, for example, belong to the same Sprite family. Their main movement ability remains Sonic’s, with a different variant bonus added.

The current total breaks down like this:

    CollectionEntries
    Base Sprites27
    Gold26
    Cheat Master26
    Loot Hacker26
    Bounty Hunter26
    Trick or Treat26
    Quack5
    Total162

Mega Man is the exception: it has only its base form in this season’s collection. Quack versions exist for Jonesy, Adventure, Bush, Klombo and Spooky Dash.

There are also 25 named Sprite types from Chapter 7 Season 3, listed further down. Those belong to the older collection and should not be added to the current season’s 162-entry total.

    New Sprites in Fortnite

The latest new base Sprites are Honey and One Wish Willow, introduced with the October 15 update. Five Quack variants also arrived as Sprite Mastery rewards.

    Honey Sprite

Honey gives your ranged weapon hits a chance to spawn bees where the damage lands. The important detail is the trigger: the release update describes the effect activating when you deal ranged damage.

Earlier preview information described bees attacking enemies who hurt you. For the released version, the newer description is the one to follow.

I like Honey’s concept because it gives a successful shot something extra. It also sounds more entertaining than another small stat increase, although a chance-based effect is not something I would build an entire plan around.

    One Wish Willow Sprite

One Wish Willow helps extract an eliminated opponent’s equipped Sprites. It also pushes nearby enemies away when you take damage.

There is a catch: removing it marks your position on the map. That makes swapping it out a decision worth thinking about when other players are close.

You may see this companion called the Obsession Sprite in earlier announcements. That refers to One Wish Willow, rather than a separate Sprite to collect.

    Other Recent Fortnitemares Additions

Before Honey and Willow, the October update introduced Spooky Dash, Vampire, The Deer and Dumpster Dive. Their abilities cover escaping danger, healing through combat, stronger melee attacks and finding useful food. All four appear in the complete tables below.

All Current Fortnite Sprites and Their Abilities

These tables cover all 27 base Sprites in Chapter 7 Season 4. I have grouped them by what their powers help you do, so you can compare useful options without digging through one enormous alphabetical list.

    Movement and Escaping Trouble

    SpriteWhat it does
SonicIncreases sprint speed, with a stronger boost as it levels up.
TailsLets you hover in the air.
JackrabbitGives you another jump while already airborne.
Mega ManReduces friction while sliding, helping you slide farther.
PondLets you perform a Super Jump by jumping shortly after landing, provided you have a charge. Charges recover over time.
Spooky DashProvides an airborne dash that can pass through some objects. Its charges recharge over time.
OnigiriActivates Overdrive after you eat or drink a consumable item.
Storm ScoutActivates Overdrive after enough Storm damage. At maximum level, it also reveals upcoming Storm circles.

Overdrive is a temporary boost associated with faster movement and combat actions. You do not need to memorize the term: the practical difference here is what activates it. Onigiri rewards using consumables; Storm Scout activates after Storm damage.

My preference would be a movement power I can use deliberately, such as Jackrabbit or Sonic. Storm Scout has a useful emergency role, but I would not treat it as a reason to stay in the Storm longer than necessary.

    Health, Protection and Staying Hidden

    SpriteWhat it does
JonesyRestores some health or shield after a short delay following damage.
OvershieldAdds an extra protective shield, with the amount increasing as the Sprite levels up.
    MorganaMakes healing items more effective.
VampireRestores health when you damage an enemy.
BlinkyBriefly cloaks you after you take damage, making you harder to see.
BushGives you a bush disguise after a delay. At maximum level, an elimination can grant one too.
BirthdayGives opened chests a chance to produce cake. At maximum level, eliminations can produce it as well.
Dumpster DiveImproves food healing and helps you find food when leaving hiding props, with an additional chance from containers.

Vampire and Jonesy work differently. Vampire rewards dealing damage; Jonesy helps you recover after receiving it. Morgana improves healing supplies rather than replacing the need to find them.

For a newer player, I would put a straightforward benefit such as extra protection high on the shortlist. A more unusual ability can be fun, but it only helps if you remember to use the actions that trigger it.

    Fighting and Finding Opponents

    SpriteWhat it does
ShadowReloads unequipped weapons over time. At maximum level, its effect also includes the equipped weapon.
KillswitchProvides Hangtime and improved accuracy when aiming while jumping or falling.
Crash BandicootPerforms an airborne spinning attack that damages and knocks back nearby opponents.
    The DeerIncreases melee damage.
    X-RayPeriodically marks nearby enemies.
HoneyRanged hits have a chance to create bees at the hit location.

X-Ray stands out to me because knowing where someone is can change whether you take a fight at all. Shadow is another appealing option for players who switch weapons frequently. Neither removes the need for good positioning, but their benefits are easy to understand.

    Loot and Collection Rewards

    SpriteWhat it does
AdventureUpgrades a random inventory item when the Sprite levels up.
8-BitPuts an 8-Bit Shotgun in your first chest and adds a score multiplier for it.
KlomboProvides random items as it levels up. Its special leveling requirement is consuming items that restore health or shield.
CrownGrants extra Crown Wins after a Victory Royale. It levels through match wins.
One Wish WillowHelps extract eliminated opponents’ equipped Sprites, pushes enemies away when you are damaged, and marks you if removed.

Klombo and Crown deserve special attention because their leveling rules differ from the usual approach. If their progress seems slow, check the required action before assuming something is broken.

I would view Crown as a collection and achievement choice. If the immediate goal is surviving the next fight, a movement or defensive Sprite would be more tempting to me.

    All Current Sprite Variants Explained

A variant keeps its Sprite family’s core power and adds a separate effect. These are not simply different colors, although their appearances also distinguish them.

    VariantAdditional benefit or rule
BaseThe standard version with the Sprite’s normal power.
GoldExtra Sprite XP from eliminations, subject to special leveling rules.
Cheat MasterMakes inputs count as correct when entering the Island’s Cheat Codes.
Loot HackerImproves the chance of receiving items from your configured Loot Hacks.
Bounty HunterAdds opportunities to find Sprites through eliminations; these variants generally progress through eliminations. Special cases such as Crown have their own requirements.
Trick or TreatIncreases the chance of finding Halloween candy in chests.
QuackHelps the Sprites you carry gain additional Sprite XP.

Every current base type except Mega Man has Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker, Bounty Hunter and Trick or Treat versions. The five Quack versions are Quack Jonesy, Quack Adventure, Quack Bush, Quack Klombo and Quack Spooky Dash.

That gives you the complete current set without repeating the same ability six or seven times. A Gold Jackrabbit still provides the extra jump; its Gold benefit sits on top of that.

How to Find and Keep Sprites in Fortnite

Look for Cheat Codes and Chests

Override introduced Cheat Code panels around the Island. Interact with a panel and enter its button sequence to release a Sprite. These are built-in gameplay features, not third-party cheats.

Cheat Code rarity affects your odds, but older advice saying you must find a particular color for a particular Sprite is outdated. Since the September update, blue and purple codes can provide Sprites of any rarity. Purple codes offer better chances of rarer finds, while orange codes guarantee a variant.

During Fortnitemares, Pumpkin Chests are another source worth checking. Ordinary chests, seasonal rewards and special events can also contribute to your collection.

    Extract Your Find

Take a newly found Sprite to an Extraction Site and complete the process to secure it. A Portable Extractor provides another route when you have one available.

Being eliminated before securing a Sprite can leave it for another player to collect. Personally, I would prioritize extracting a missing variant over chasing one more fight. Losing a duplicate is annoying; losing the one you were hunting is worse.

    Use Sprite Dust and Mastery

Sprite Dust is the collection currency used for actions such as summoning collected Sprites. In Override, it also supports Loot Hacks that customize possible chest rewards.

Sprites become more useful as they gain levels, although their exact improvements vary. Mastery also unlocks rewards and reduces the Dust cost of resummoning a mastered Sprite. Extracted duplicates can contribute XP to an existing copy.

Older Fortnite Sprites: The Chapter 7 Season 3 Collection

The previous season’s Sprites remain part of players’ collections and the Sprite Garden. They are separate from Override’s current Battle Royale roster.

The abilities below describe their Season 3 gameplay roles. They are not a promise that you can find and equip them in the current Battle Royale season.

    Older SpriteWhat it did
AirIncreased sprint speed and jump height, while preventing fall damage.
EarthGave chests a chance to provide extra rare items.
FireCreated a fiery burst after enough damage was dealt.
WaterRestored shields while in water, benefiting the user and nearby squadmates.
DuckRestored shields through emoting or jamming.
GhostTemporarily cloaked the player after reloading.
DemonRestored some health and shields after an elimination.
    KingIncreased pickaxe damage.
DreamProvided items as it leveled, with Legendary loot at maximum level.
PunkOffered an unlimited-ammo benefit at maximum level.
Zero PointCreated a small Shield Bubble when using eligible healing items on yourself.
Burnt PeanutGave eliminations a chance to drop extra loot, potentially including Mythic items.
StrikerActivated Overdrive through movements such as mantling, hurdling or wall scrambling.
FishyIncreased swimming speed and briefly boosted movement after taking damage.
AuraBuilt a Shock Rock charge through dealing damage.
    BossIncreased maximum health and shields.
Grim Reaper / GrimMarked enemies who attacked you.
BatmanAllowed an aerial launch and Bat Cape deployment.
SevenMade enemy foot trails visible to the squad.
Vini Jr.Made sliding destructive after sprinting; slide-kicking enemies boosted firing and reloading speed.
PolloRestored shields over time for the user and nearby squadmates after an elimination.
Lootin’ Llama / LlamaGave ammo boxes a chance to upgrade a weapon.
Peeky PeelyDetected nearby rare Sprite carriers, while revealing your own location.
John WickRevealed nearby opponents after knocking an enemy player.
IronmouseRegenerated health when low, with temporary cloaking and reduced gravity during recovery.

Names such as Grim and Grim Reaper, or Llama and Lootin’ Llama, refer to the same respective Sprite family here. They should not be counted twice.

    Older Sprite Variant Types

The Runners collection used Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem, Holofoil, Cube and Quack variants, alongside the base versions. Not every Sprite received every variant.

Their bonuses covered extra elimination XP, additional extraction Dust, more ammunition, reduced fall damage, improved rare-Sprite chances, Storm-related Overdrive and shared Sprite progression. Gummy, Galaxy and Cube entries in an older checklist therefore should not be mistaken for additional Override Sprite types.

What About the Original Air, Water and Earth Sprites?

The original Chapter 6 Season 1 Sprites used a different system:

    • Air Sprite: Throwing it created an upward wind current that could launch you and allow glider redeployment. It could also affect builds and vehicles.
    • Water Sprite: Throwing it created a healing fountain for nearby players, restoring health and shields.
    • Earth Sprite: Feeding it items produced a reward in exchange.

Returning a Sprite to a Sprite Shrine could also grant a Boon, a special gameplay benefit from that season.

This is why old Sprite Shrine guides can be misleading when you are looking for the current collection. The names are familiar, but the abilities, map and collection process have changed.

Which Fortnite Sprites Would I Prioritize?

For general usefulness, my shortlist would start with X-Ray, Overshield, Sonic and Shadow. Information, protection, movement and reloading all address problems that come up regularly in a match.

For collecting, One Wish Willow is especially interesting, while Quack variants make sense when progression is the goal. Players who enjoy close-range attacks may prefer Crash Bandicoot or The Deer.

I would choose based on the action I actually use. An ability that fits your habits is more valuable than a rare companion whose power you barely trigger. And before hunting any Sprite from an old video, check its season: a familiar name does not guarantee it is still in the current loot pool.
