    Dota 2 Patch 7.41f

Valve dropped 7.41f just as everyone had finished copying the latest pro builds. Naturally.

The nerf hammer landed hardest on several high-MMR favourites, carry shopping lists got slightly more painful, and Invoker players lost their favourite legally questionable farming method. It is not a huge patch, but it absolutely messes with a few important timings.

    RIP some MMR.

The Item Economy: Carries Pay More, Supports Still Suffer

Several classic carry items received the highly technical Valve treatment known as “add 100 gold and see what happens.”

Daedalus now costs 5,200 gold after its recipe jumped from 900 to 1,000. It sounds minor. It will not feel minor when your team is forcing a fight, you are 83 gold short, and somebody has already pinged your unfinished recipe six times.

Dragon Lance also went from 1,900 to 2,000 gold. That pushes Hurricane Pike up to 4,550 because it still needs the more expensive Lance. Ranged carries such as Drow Ranger, Luna, and Terrorblade will survive, obviously, but that clean early Lance timing is a little slower.

Octarine Core took the bigger slap: its recipe doubled from 200 to 400 gold, bringing the full item to 5,100. Spell-spamming cores will need another wave or two before reaching permanent-cooldown-nonsense territory.

Then there is Satanic. The cost stayed put, but its lifesteal against heroes dropped from 30% to 25%. Against creeps, it fell from 18% to 15%. You still become horribly difficult to kill when Unholy Rage is active, but passive jungle recovery is worse and buying Satanic no longer feels like installing a second health bar.

    Supports rejoice?

    Not really.

Infused Raindrops lost mana regeneration, dropping from 0.8 to 0.6. Essence Distiller also fell from 1.75 to 1.5 mana regen. Position 5 players are apparently expected to survive lane on optimism and half a mango.

The one genuine discount is Heaven’s Halberd, down from 3,400 to 3,300 gold. That mainly helps offlaners, but your support Windranger pretending to be utility may celebrate too. Saving 100 gold sounds laughable until your lane is burning down, the courier is dead, and every creep belongs to your carry by divine law.

    A few other changes matter:

    • Manta Style ranged illusions now deal 25% damage instead of 28%. Less split-push pressure and slightly slower farming for ranged Manta buyers.
    • Mjollnir’s Static Charge lasts 12 seconds instead of 15. Stop casting it half an hour before the fight.
    • Mask of Madness lifesteal dropped from 24% to 22% against heroes.
    • Shiva’s Guard Arctic Blast damage fell from 260 to 225.
    • Heart of Tarrasque now costs 5,300 gold.
    • Battle Fury can chop trees every three seconds instead of four. Finally, the buff Anti-Mage needed: enhanced forestry.

    The Hero Hit List

    Loser: Invoker

Invoker was everywhere in high-rank matches, and Valve clearly got tired of watching him disappear into Ghost Walk while an entire side lane mysteriously died.

Cold Snap’s cooldown increased from 18 to 19 seconds. Annoying, but manageable.

The real wound is Ghost Walk’s Aghanim’s Shard upgrade no longer damaging non-hero units. That kills the incredibly safe Ghost Walk wave-clear routine. Invoker cannot casually drift through a creep wave, collect the gold and leave without showing.

He still has spells. Roughly 700 of them. He is not dead.

But his Shard is far less attractive, his split-pushing is riskier, and recovering from a rough mid lane now requires actual farming patterns instead of invisible tax collection. Good riddance, honestly.

    Loser: Lina

    This one hurts.

Lina lost two base Intelligence, taking her from 30 to 28, which also cuts her level-one damage from 51–59 to 49–57. That immediately affects last-hitting and denying in mid. Lose two ranged creeps against a decent Ember or Invoker player and suddenly the lane feels disgusting.

    Fiery Soul was hit twice:

    • Attack-speed bonuses dropped from 8/16/24/32 to 7/14/21/28.
    • The duration fell from 18 to 16 seconds.

She now has less room to maintain stacks while moving between camps or waiting for the next wave. Lina will still farm quickly when everything lines up, but the engine takes more work to keep running. Her early trading is weaker, her lane execution is fussier, and she already looks rough in the first batch of high-level 7.41f matches.

    Playable? Yes.

    Comfortable? Absolutely not.

    Winner: Anti-Mage

Anti-Mage received one clean buff: Mana Break now converts 65% of burned mana into damage, up from 60%.

That is not flashy, but it improves exactly what AM already wants to do. Mana-dependent strength offlaners hate trading into him, and low-mana supports become even tastier once he reaches them. If the opposing lane has a hero who needs every last point of mana to function, AM can turn repeated trades into a slow eviction notice.

The Battle Fury tree-cutting buff is mostly comedy, while Manta’s ranged illusion nerf does not affect him because Anti-Mage is melee. Convenient.

Do not blindly pick him into five heroes who can invade his jungle, though. A buffed Mana Break will not save you when your Battle Fury arrives at 22 minutes and your ancient stack belongs to the enemy Axe.

    Winner: Ursa

Ursa’s Maul now deals 1.75% of the target’s maximum health as damage, up from 1.25%.

    That is a chunky increase.

Tanky melee offlaners can no longer assume their large health pool makes the lane safe. Ursa was already built to punish heroes who stand close and trade for too long; now every hit scales harder against exactly those targets. Add Fury Swipes and suddenly your 3,000-HP frontliner looks more like an unusually expensive neutral creep.

He still dislikes being kited. Nothing changed there. Pick him when your team has catches, not when your draft consists of five people politely waiting for the enemy to walk into melee range.

    Quiet Buffs Worth Watching

Batrider gained Intelligence growth, going from 2.9 to 3.2, plus a tiny improvement to damage gained per level. More mana, slightly better scaling, same deeply unpleasant lane presence.

Mars gained one base armor. Boring on paper. Very real during the first few waves against physical harass.

Disruptor gained one base Intelligence and one level-one damage. He is not suddenly broken, but every support player knows that one extra damage can be the difference between securing the ranged creep and donating it to the enemy offlaner.

And Warlock gained five base attack speed.

    Calm down, everyone.

    Other Nerfs You Will Feel

Bounty Hunter’s Track now gives less bonus gold to both BH and his allies. That attacks the reason the hero snowballed so brutally: once his team got ahead, every Track kill widened the gap until the match became an unpaid hide-and-seek internship.

Keeper of the Light lost base attack speed, Chakra Magic provides 0.5 seconds less cooldown reduction at every level, and Spirit Form’s Illuminate healing fell from 70% to 60%. His Shard-enhanced heal remains at 100%, but the default version is noticeably worse.

Lifestealer’s Rage cooldown increased by one second at every level, while his Scepter-enhanced Infest lasts four seconds on enemies instead of five. His level 10 movement-speed talent also dropped from +20 to +15. Nothing individually murders the hero, but everything feels slightly clunkier—which is often how Valve quietly removes a hero from first-pick territory.

Treant Protector got mugged. He lost three base Intelligence, Nature’s Guise loses invisibility faster after leaving trees, Living Armor’s minimum block was halved, and Leech Seed now costs mana while converting less early damage into healing. His lane remains annoying. Just less “why is this tree allowed to do everything?” annoying.

EU West vs. EU East: Same Patch, Different Crime Scene

On EU West, everyone has read the patch notes. Nobody agrees on what they mean.

Your German mid player wants Invoker because the hero is “still top tier.” The British position 4 has already declared Lina unplayable. Somebody from a London gaming lounge is asking why the carry bought Dragon Lance instead of joining a fight, while the carry is exactly 100 gold short because nobody noticed the recipe changed.

EU East will process 7.41f differently: five heroes run at the same rune, a fight begins before anyone has skilled an ability, and Ursa discovers his Maul buff by hitting the same offlaner until one of them stops moving.

Then there is ping. Queuing from Western Europe into EU East can turn a clean Blink initiation into a brief documentary about input delay. Queuing EU West at 2 AM is not safer. It simply means your Discord stack gets to argue in clearer audio while drafting four cores.

    Different servers. Same grief.

Three Unfiltered Rules for Ranked Tonight

    • Ban Ursa if your offlane pool is full of slow, fat melee heroes. Testing the Maul buff personally is not required.
    • Do not autopilot the old Invoker Shard timing. Ghost Walk no longer farms non-hero units. If you buy it expecting invisible wave-clear, congratulations on your 1,400-gold cosmetic.
    • Check your carry’s updated item cost before forcing a smoke. Daedalus, Dragon Lance, Pike, Heart, and Octarine timings all moved. Sometimes that “AFK idiot” really is one wave away.

Patch 7.41f did not flip Dota upside down. It just made several popular heroes worse, made carry players slightly poorer, and handed Ursa sharper claws.
