The next major Steam sale is the Winter Sale, running from December 17, 2026, to January 4, 2027. Before then, Steam Scream V runs October 26–November 2, bringing a horror and Halloween focus to the store.
Updated October 14, 2026. Event dates checked against Valve’s official Steamworks calendar.
Steam’s calendar includes major seasonal sales, smaller themed promotions, and festivals dedicated to playable demos. Knowing the difference helps you decide whether to buy now, wait for a specific event, or try something before adding it to your wishlist.
My advice is to begin with the games you actually want to play. Three carefully chosen purchases can offer more enjoyment than a shopping basket filled simply because everything has a discount sticker.
Confirmed Steam Sale Dates for 2026 and 2027
| Event | Dates | What to expect |
| Cooking Fest | October 12–19, 2026 | Cooking-themed games, discounts, and demos |
| Steam Next Fest | October 19–26, 2026 | Free demos of upcoming games |
| Steam Scream V | October 26–November 2, 2026 | Horror and Halloween-themed games |
| Auto-Battler RPG Fest | November 16–23, 2026 | Automated battles, team building, and unit upgrades |
| Steam Winter Sale | December 17, 2026–January 4, 2027 | A major seasonal sale |
| Steam Spring Sale | March 18–25, 2027 | A major seasonal sale |
| Steam Summer Sale | June 24–July 8, 2027 | A major seasonal sale |
Valve has published these dates in its official calendar. The Steam Autumn Sale 2027 date remains unannounced, with the event currently listed as “TBD.”
An event announcement does not guarantee a discount on every eligible game. Individual titles, prices, and offer deadlines must be checked separately.

Cooking Fest: Confirmed Games and Discounts
Cooking Fest is currently underway and ends October 19. Alongside discounted releases, the event also accommodates upcoming games and playable demos.
Developer announcements identify several participants worth checking:
- Istikan Chai – Run a traditional chai stall and serve customers. The developer has announced 20% off until October 19 at 10 a.m. Pacific.
- Mattami – Its developer announced participation with a 40% discount.
- Late Order – The developers confirmed participation in Cooking Fest 2026, although the announcement reviewed does not specify a discount percentage.
These examples are announced participants, rather than a complete festival lineup. Check each store page for the current price in your region before purchasing.
I like the narrower focus of an event like this. If you enjoy cooking games, browsing one relevant category is considerably easier than trying to find something appealing among thousands of unrelated offers.
Steam Next Fest: Three Announced Demos to Watch
Steam Next Fest runs October 19–26 and primarily showcases demos of unreleased games. It is an opportunity to test upcoming releases, rather than another store-wide discount event.
Developers have announced participation for:
- Picofender – A free demo is planned for the festival. Its developer also states that demo progress carries over to the full game.
- OPERATIVES: Revolve – A developer announcement describes an extended festival demo, adding the playable Operative Mystic.
- SucroNomicon – Its developers have announced participation in the October Next Fest, following its appearance in Cooking Fest.
These are demo announcements, not confirmed sale discounts. Festival plans can change before launch, so check availability when the event begins.
Personally, I find a playable demo more useful than another polished trailer. It gives you a chance to assess the controls, pacing, and central gameplay loop before deciding whether the finished release deserves your money.
Which Games Will Be in the Steam Winter Sale?
The Winter Sale dates are confirmed, but this guide does not yet have a verified lineup of individual games or discounts. Valve’s seasonal-sale calendar establishes the schedule; it does not promise specific offers.
Seasonal sales allow broad participation across Steam, subject to Valve’s eligibility rules. However, participation and discount levels depend on the individual publisher or developer.
That means a previous appearance in a sale is not enough to label a game a confirmed participant this time. Likewise, an old discount percentage should not be presented as an upcoming offer.
For now, use the calendar to plan your budget and wishlist. Check the actual deals once the event launches or developers publish specific announcements.
Has the Steam Fall Sale Already Happened?
Yes. The Steam Autumn Sale 2026 ran from October 1 to October 8. “Steam fall sale” refers to this same seasonal event.
If you missed it, check current store prices rather than relying on articles advertising expired offers. Games can receive other promotions, but an Autumn Sale price should not be assumed to remain available afterward.
How to Prepare for the Next Steam Sale
Keep Your Wishlist Useful
Prioritize games you genuinely intend to play. Valve’s documentation states that seasonal discounts of 20% or more trigger wishlist email notifications, subject to your notification settings.
A focused list also makes it easier to compare purchases without getting distracted by every recommendation on the homepage.
Compare Prices and Editions
Look at the final price, not just the discount percentage. Check regional price history, compare standard and deluxe editions, and read the contents of any bundle.
I would set a spending limit before opening the storefront. Several inexpensive purchases can quietly add up to the price of a game you wanted more.
Check Compatibility and Recent Reviews
Review system requirements and recent player feedback, especially comments about performance on hardware similar to yours.
For multiplayer games, check whether your friends want to join. For downloadable content, confirm whether the base game is required and whether your chosen edition already includes it.
Test Purchases Promptly
Steam generally permits refunds for games and software purchased through its store when requested within 14 days and with under two hours of playtime. Additional conditions and exceptions apply.
If you buy a game to play soon, test it while you can still assess whether it works properly and suits your expectations.
Should You Buy Now or Wait?
Waiting can make sense when you already have plenty to play and a wishlist title is not urgent. Buying sooner can also be reasonable when the current price fits your budget and you intend to start immediately.
For me, the useful question is simple: would I still want this game if the discount banner disappeared? If the answer is yes, compare the price and decide. If the appeal begins and ends with the percentage, leaving it in the store is probably the better deal.
